Abstract

Climate change has Excessive affected the environment, especially the existing educational environment, due to poor levels of thermal comfort in spaces and excessive consumption of building cooling energy. It was necessary to devise a solution to this situation, which is the application of environmental design strategies, which is the Sustainable Retrofitting of existing Government schools in the city of New Cairo. To provide an educational environment that suits students and improve the state of mind and productivity. The research also aims to study the effect of insulation materials to arrive at a scientific methodology for the optimal application of modern insulation technology according to clear standards and using simulation programs, taking into account architectural design and design requirements for spaces to keep pace with climate change and reduce both thermal loads. . The applied study is based on conducting a simulation of one of the school models established within the city. New Cairo, Fifth Settlement, Siza Nabrawi School, using (Design Builder v7) by studying the proposed set of alternatives, which are: adding traditional insulation materials, adding modern insulation materials, making a comparison between those alternatives. The results indicated that adding modern insulation technology materials (VIP) to insulate the building It is superior to traditional materials (mineral wool) by reducing huge amounts of energy required for cooling by a rate of 42.6%, while traditional materials reduce only 8.2%.
