Urban planning aims to organize the physical, social, economic, and environmental aspects of urban areas. This comprehensive process guides spatial development and land use to promote public health, well-being, and sustainable development. However, previous studies have not explicitly addressed urban planning axes. Instead, existing studies have focused on various topics within the field, including sustainability, technology, and public participation. As a preliminary attempt to identify these axes, this study first analyzed the conceptual structure of 1755 scientific documents from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, which covered the period from 1968 to 2025. Then, the study explored the links between main and subconcepts, highlighting thematic development across timescales. The analysis revealed three main groups within the conceptual structure of urban planning axes: "Sustainable Development and Urban Growth," "Urban Planning and Development," and "City Planning and Urban Areas." The study concludes with a recommendation to integrate design and sustainability into contemporary urban strategies. The study emphasizes the importance of this integration for academics and specialists in urban planning, sustainable development, and related fields. The study provides decision-makers and policymakers with clear urban planning guidelines when formulating policies and laws
